Concord's Katie Beecher hugs Nicole Eads as her team celebrates after the Spiders defeated Jay M. Robinson in four games to win the the South Piedmont Conference Tournament championship Wednesday, Oct. 20 at Jay M. Robinson High School.
The South Piedmont Conference in Cabarrus County North Carolina was full of tough teams this year. Concord High School, Jay M. Robinson High School, Hickory Ridge High School and Mount Pleasant High School all sat atop the conference at one point or another.
In the South Piedmont Conference Tournament at Jay M. Robinson High School last week, the top two seeds (Mount Pleasant and Hickory Ridge) both fell in the semi-finals. Concord High School played Jay M. Robinson for the championship and you could see the excitement on the girls faces after every point. I made plenty of celebration shot through out the game, primarily of the girl here, Katie Beecher, who acted like she had just won a national championship after every point. After the Spiders had won the match in three games, Beecher grabbed one of teammates and hugged her. I liked this image out of my entire take because it showed the entire team celebrating together.
Now I just wish the gyms at these high schools were better lit and the walls weren’t painted some strange off-white color.
