J.P. Trouble author Ryan Hill

I love it when people follow their dreams. After realizing the corporate world was not from him, my friend Ryan Hill decided to follow his passion and start writing. He started writing freelance movie reviews for a local newspaper and is now working on novels and the first of his Children’s series “J.P. Trouble” is due out this month.  Here’s hoping it’s the first of many.

Ryan recently hired me for his first author’s photo, so I wanted to share the face you may one day see at book signing and late night shows.

His book is now available at Barnes and Noble and Amazon. You can follow the adventures of J.P. Trouble on Facebook here.

Veterans Homecoming

A few images from this weekend’s Vietnam Veterans Homecoming Celebration put on by the USO of North Carolina at Charlotte Motor Speedway in Concord. Among the many military exhibits was the Wall that Heals, a scaled-down replica of the Vietnam Memorial in Washington D.C. To cap off the day, Kannapolis-born George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic performed as well as The Charlie Daniels Band.

NCPA Awards

Last week, the North Carolina Press Association recognized a video I produced on Jimmy Murphey and his new home. Murphey spent his life making sure children had a toys and families had food at Christmas. A group in the community took it upon themselves to build him a new home after they learned his house was falling apart.

Some Favorites from 2011: Weddings

As we enter 2012 I wanted to take a minute and look back a few of my favorite wedding images last year. I’ve had the good fortune to work with and learn from the extremely awesome Jason Miczek as well as shoot a few on my own. Thank you to all the incredible brides and grooms who let me share their most memorable day.  I’m looking forward to growing the wedding side of my photography in 2012.

The Nutcracker

It’s not Christmas without “The Nutcracker.” At least that’s how Rebecca and Daniel Wiley feel. Each year the husband and wife dance teachers take a group of students and volunteers (ages 4 to 40+) and put on a production of the classic holiday ballet that seems to rival professional dance companies. I joined them for a dress rehearsal of the ballet last weekend and put together a short video. I had the nice problem of having too much stuff to jam into the 3 minutes and looking back there is even more I could have explored if I spent more time with them. Rebecca and Daniel were a joy to meet and hang out with for an afternoon and who knows, maybe next year I can spend more time documenting this wonderful production (They start rehearsals in September)
